After a number of years and lots learned the Brierley Hill Project is going through a major restructure. BHP is growing from: a staff dependent, people-centred model measured by the popularity of sessions, to an outcome-centred model measured by progress in people who access the services. We will keep you updated as things progress and look forward to launching a new website in the middle of October with all you need to know on there. Thanks for all of your support!!

The BHP team would like to thank Sainsbury’s Amblecote for having us as their chosen Charity for the last 12 month. Here are some of the great things that have come out of our partnership:

Creating hope – jobs and training mad accessible to our service users

Great Volunteers – Several staff members have given their time to help us in various activities and clubs

Finance – Through the whole year, staff and customers have raised a massive £4070.03!
A big thank you to Vernon the manager of Sainsbury’s Amblecote for discounting our food order for the Jubilee Party by 10%.

Donations – Sainsbury’s has also donated many resources such as nail varnish, makeup, books, pens, crayon, toys and games.

Raising our Profile – This has been a massive benefit and impossible to measure.

We visited the store for a leaving presentation with the Colleague Council. This was a very moving time where BHP and Sainsbury’s staff thanked each other and agreed that this has been an amazing partnership. Sainsbury’s staff expressed that that had learnt a great deal about the community and being positively effected by volunteering in the FoodBand etc.

Thanks again Sainsbury’s for all your efforts and for believing in our mission.

To celebrate the Jubilee we held a street party, around 80 local residents joined in the fun, food and games. Thankfully the weather held and a good day was had by all.

We had a Flexi Bars Exercise Class evening, the owner of Reflections Gym in Quarry Bank gave her time and expertise for free to support local ladies.

Scarlet Thread also had a good time learning how to use a knitting machine and some lovely pieces were created.

This week we have visited residents in a care home, shared a meal with them and their staff as part of our Community Visiting Programme.

The “Open the Book” team had a great time in the local school sharing Bible stories with 65 children and staff, the children played parts in the story which was told in a simple fun way.

We have had our first Crystal Breakfast Club Network meeting, one of our team met with local business people and was able to share about our work at the BHP. At the end of the evening we were presented with a check for £190.00 towards our work, so a big thank you to them!

The keep fit group is doing a great job helping local people to be fit and active in a fun way, numbers have grown and another 10 week course will start in April.

The community visiting team has had some of their clients in hospital this week, so they went to visit them there. One man said it had made him feel a lot better as he saw them walk onto the ward, he said he’d missed the team and couldn’t find the words to say how much the visits mean to him.

One of our volunteers has been released to carry the Fairtrade message into schools. 10 different schools have joined together and have taken part in writing about Fairtrade and then a local rap talent pulled their words together into a rap song.

The holiday club has been full of excited children in the last few weeks, playing lots of games, drawing, colouring and just getting to know one and other, and us. We have had some new children this year which is great news.

We held one of our community socials to create a relaxed space for people who live on the estate to gather together and chat while enjoying jacket potatoes and listening to live music.

Work on the graveyard has started again, the volunteers have enjoyed the sun, hard work and chips!
